I recently heard Huxley's infinite monkey theorem applied to bloggers. It states that if you give an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of typewriters, eventually one of them will write a masterpiece. My favorite part of this analogy is that even if a masterpiece is written, the other monkeys won't listen.

I spent the last two weeks in North Carolina learning to carve wood with a chainsaw. It was a whole lot of fun. Hopefully they'll let me do this in woodshop in the fall.

Hi! I graduated last night:

That's Adam, Mingle, Tina, Brandon, and myself. I graduated Phi Theta Kappa with honors and I was awarded the Faculty Medallion for my degree.

Now, I get to go to North Carolina and learn how to chainsaw.

Then, I get to go to RISD.

I don't know how to get rid of all the space down here. Sorry. :(

Hello everyone!

I have BIG BIG news!

I got into RISD!

RISD was my top choice. I will be a sculpture major starting in September. I was also granted advanced standing based on my portfolio, so I don't have to attend their summer session.

Look out, Providence!

I also got into MICA, but it's a bit irrelevant now.

I just received the Lucy C. Morgan scholarship to study at Penland this summer. To get this scholarship, you have to be nominated by a current artist in the field and then apply to Penland with an essay.

I will be learning how to make wood sculptures with a chainsaw.

Hooray!

I really love my new camera. It's working out perfectly.

Silver Vase 72

This is a silver vase that I made. The original was in wax which was then invested with plaster. The wax was burned out and then the remaining mold was filled with melted silver. Voila!

That's Kiwi. Isn't he cute? Mango doesn't like the camera as much. I had NO control over this picture. I put everything on automatic and held it up and took pictures without looking. If it can do this on auto, I can't wait to see the manual pictures!

Dear Jym,

I'm really glad you taught be about the Scoville Scale. Today, I got cayenne pepper in my eye. On the back of the cayenne bottle, it said 90,000 HU. I remember that you had bought something much higher to eat, so I knew I would be ok.

I also knew you would be sympathetic to my pain since you had an incident with pepper spray. However, pepper spray is usually 2 million to 5 million HU-- at least 22 times the strength of my cayenne pepper.

Thanks,

Natalie

I'm so sad to be done at RISD. I made so many great friends and had such a good time. My classes and teachers were absolutely amazing. My digital camera broke half way through RISD, so I don't have many pictures-- just what other people have sent me.

After RISD, I went to Costa Rica with my family. We had a great time swimming, horseback riding, and zip lining.

I start back at Banana on Sept. 1. I really can't wait-- I missed that job a lot. School starts on Sept 5th, which I'm also looking forward to, as well as my project with Wayne Strattman. I got a President's Citation (like Dean's list, but better) for Spring Semester. I have enough credits that I can go to school part time in the spring and maybe have an internship.

Soccer starts tomorrow for me. I know I'm really out of shape, but I'm still looking forward to playing.

I think that's it (the short version). Life couldn't be any better. :)

HOLY SHIT I'M DOING A PROJECT WITH WAYNE FUCKING STRATTMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

seriously. holy shit. wayne stattman.

Today, I leave for RISD (art boot camp). I'm going to try and see Wayne when I get to Providence (he's in Boston) and start brainstorming about this project, per Anna's suggestion.

This was my last week of classes at SCC for the summer. I did a lot of lathe work making vases and goblets and a bullseye pitcher. The last day Paul gave me a bigger torch for the lathe and it was so much easier. I printed some pictures from my honors conference my last day in the photo lab and passed them on to my advisor who gave them to PR.

My birthday is coming up soon. Rupert gave me something yesterday, but I can't open it till my birthday. I was totally surprised! We're going to go check out the Philly bar scene when I get back from RISD.

Wayne Strattman.

I just got off the phone with Anna Boothe. I am now involved in a large scale project with Wayne Strattman (a neon artist who designs a lot of the neon that you buy from places like Spencer's).

I'm sending some of my photography to galleries so I HAD to take pictures. I only have 3 images out of about 20 that are part of this series, but I'll post them all the same :) Try and guess what they are. I'll post the titles later.

The GAS conference was OK. St. Louis was a pretty lame city, but the conference itself was decent. At first I was disappointed because it was pretty mindless. The party the last night was crazy. There were so many belligerent glass blowers.

Today was my last day at Banana Republic until August. I'm really sad to be leaving for 2 months. We just hired a bunch of new people and they all seemed really nice.

This weekend is the Phi Theta Kappa confrence in Salisbury, MD. I'm not exactly sure what we'll be doing, but I know going to the confrence makes me eligible to be an officer in the fall.

Soccer tryouts were Friday night. The coach is the coolest guy. He is Australian with a very thick accent and he has a ton of soccer experience. In December, he plans to take the team to Australia to tour and play soccer. I wasn't nearly as rusty as I thought. I stopped some good shots at tryouts.

I was looking at some pictures of me from last year, and I really look different. I'm about 20 lbs. lighter, my hair is half as long, and I'm toned from all the glass blowing.

This week, Paul is teaching me how to blow glass on a lathe. I'm really excited.

I'm off to dinner right now!
